The Choice of Music
Hey pals! What's going on? You guessed it! Time to choose the music we'll have for the background of our opening scene.
Sabrina originally had the idea to have a more minimal use of music, playing only at the end in the cafe. We also discussed having suspenseful music play throughout the film; it is a thriller after all. However, we didn't think the suspense music really fits the "normal" to "ohh that's kind of weird" vibe we're going for in our opening sequence.
We thought about meeting somewhere in the middle. Maybe start the video with chill, upbeat music that slowly turns more eery as time progresses. Unfortunately, after lots of looking, we couldn't find anything online like that. To work around this, we talked about merging two different songs together, but that idea was also scrapped because it was too complicated.
So I was put to the task to find some other music to use. I scoured the internet, looking at lofi beats, acoustics, suspense music, etc, but couldn't find anythinig I liked. I tried to think about our inspirations for our opening sequence, and other films in our genre. The thing is, the fact that our movie is a thriller is meant to be kind of a suprise. It's meant to sound normal until the final moment of the sequence, so I looked for more normal music. I ended up finding some copyright free indie rock on YouTube. I thought this might fit well because it sounds kind of like a fun, coming of age (although our characters are meant to be in their twenties), type vibe. However, as the voice over starts getting weirder, saying weirder things, the indie rock might still fit the vibe. This makes it so that we don't have to change the song a bunch, while still fitting the theme.
Although it took forever to find this, I'm happy with my work and our group decision to use it.
Have a great night!
